About SerenityView Alpaca Stud
SerenityView Alpaca Stud is owned and run by Michelle and Kim Oates.
I am a Secondary School Teacher as well as Business Manager of the Stud. The business records (thank God for Optimate!) are done with assistance from Melanie Oates, who has a degree in Commerce and works as a Credit Analyst for a large company. My role includes correspondence, sales, fleece, animal health and husbandry and showing.
I am on the committee of the Tasmanian Region of the Australian Alpaca Association. I am a member of The Australasian Alpaca Breeders Association as I support their DNA register and wish to see all those owning alpacas able to show them regardless of with whom the animals are registered. I also run SerenityView Poultry.
Kim is the full time Farm Manager responsible for maintenance and assisting with alpaca stock management and movement. He is the contact and manager of the homestay/farm visits. Kim designs and builds alpaca shelters, chook pens and other requirements on farm. Thinking about setting up a place for alpacas? Kim is available for a small fee to visit your property and discuss/design requirements such as fencing, lane ways, shelters etc.
General enquiries and after sales ongoing back up are a free service.
Here at SerenityView we try to use organic methods as much as is practical. We supplement feed the alpacas with extras like lucerne hay. I make a mix employing organic methods. For those interested in poultry I also make a warm porridge for them and I believe this contributes to the good supply of eggs all winter!
Our alpacas are of a variety of colours, including white, black, browns and fawns. The whites are holding low micron. One of my boys born this year, SerenityView White Pepper, is exhibiting a very good fleece with density, crimp, softness etc so he will be heading to the shows on.
I am currently learning the craft side of the business. Watch this space for more information about craft in the near future!
